PROGRAMING THE PIC chips... NO WORRYS !

Postby Electrosonic » Fri Oct 10, 2008 9:32 pm

Using the simple ICSP connector to the board will allow
a very simple JDM programmer to be used in situ; ( $15 ) assembled from Sparkfun
or even a PCB from SmashTV... only the cost of an RS conector, header and a
few discrete components! Even a USB to RS lead can be purchased on ebay POST FREE
for $6

So, just to be clear, instead of buying the 89 dollard programmer from sparkfun, I can buy the 14 dollar socketed serial port programmer and a USB to RS lead from Ebay for all the programming?

Yes that is correct; a ICSP lead is included and a number of different freeware interfaces available... a proper SERIAL PORT is advised for certain ones. Speak to Matt directly also, as he has offered help in this area. P

You need to make sure the programmer is capable of programming 18F2525 and 18F4525 chips. Which it probably is. Hmm, just a post a link and Ill check it out.

I'm assuming this is the one he is talking about. Unfortunately, I am not seeing 18F2525 and 18F4525 chips on there unless I am just reading it wrong. I'm really interested in finding an alternative to the $90 one because other than a few discrepancies I'll be asking about later about certain parts on the EBOM, I have everything I need to finish a board and have already started soldering.

No response back from maldrich about whether it was compatible so I never got it. I also found discrepancies on the electronic bill of materials and I kind of put it on the back burner since I never got a response about the programmer.

Hey after checking out the programmer, like dusty said, no word on the 4525 or the 2525. That is never really a good sign, but maybe with some more research. Too bad, that is a nice cost effective programmer.
